Rob Gillham
Rob Gillham
UX Design Practice Lead
Rob is one of the most experienced User Experience (UX) practitioners in the UK, having started his career at Amberlight in 2003. He went on to work as European Project Director at Human Factors International and Head of Insight at Foolproof before returning to Amberlight in 2016 to lead the UX Design & Research Practice. Rob is highly experienced in performing design and research at scale, having led UX teams on large projects for the likes of Shell, Mars and Channel 4. Rob is also interested in the question of how large organisations can manage design knowledge effectively. He writes on this subject and other industry topics on his personal blog. Outside work, Rob is a keen club cricketer and will bore anyone who will listen to the details of his one-and-only score of a hundred.

Phil Attenborough
Chief Talent Officer
With nearly twenty years overall experience in recruitment, for the last ten Phil has focused on providing search and interim talent placement services for the Media, Consumer and Business Service sectors. As head of Amberlight Change’s talent section, Phil develops and manages Amberlight’s portfolio of exceptional UX talent in order to fulfill our research and design projects as well helping many of our clients find and retain the inhouse UX specialists that they need.
Cathy Kennedy
Fieldwork Manager
Cathy manages the fieldwork process at Amberlight overseeing the recruitment of participants and the logistics of our research. Well-honed organisation and logistical skills, a keen eye for detail and an extensive network of field agents in the UK and around the world combine to make Cathy one of the most reliable and respected fieldwork specialists in the business. She also pursues a bewildering range of personal interests including life coaching, singing in a rock choir and writing a series of novels set in Ireland!

Organisational Change Lead
Amberlight’s Strength-based Change Practice is led by David, an organisational transformation practitioner with over twenty years experience driving change and improvement in the private and public sectors in Europe, US and Asia.
David is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master black belt and NTL-certified Appreciative Inquiry practitioner. David’s refreshing approach is centred around helping temas build on what already works (instead of only focussing on what does not!) He is also the author of an acclaimed book on appreciative inquiry and Lean working: Strength-based Lean Six Sigma.

Volker Thoma
Behavioural Insight Lead
A UX and psychology researcher for more than 18 years, Dr Volker Thoma leads our Behavioural Design practice, helping organisations to change consumer and workforce behaviours using the methods of design. His expertise is in user modelling, human performance studies, and decision-making. Volker has worked across e-commerce, online games, social media, interactive television, finance, automotive cockpits, and educational applications for the likes of EE, The Guardian, Channel 4, Samsung, Centrica and Betfair.
