Amberlight can train individuals or groups from your organisation in usability testing and user-centred design methods. We also offer training for account managers who need to communicate the benefits of these techniques to clients.

Our seminars will bring your team up to speed with UCD methods and specific case-studies, appropriate to your needs.

Training Course 1:
Introduction to user-centred design

Length: Either full or half-day
Suitable for: Designers or managers new to UCD

This one-day course demonstrates the practice and benefits of involving users in your design process. Design is difficult, but systematic ways of engineering for success are well understood in academia and user-centred design practitioners. On completing the course, you will be able to:

• Understand the basics and foundations of UCD
• Recognise how products should be useful, accessible, usable and persuasive
• Begin to spot usability problems in designs and their solutions
• Employ basic user-centred design methods
• Recognise standards and legal requirements for UCD
• Understand UCD in an organisational context

Each of the six areas is addressed by the facilitator with a wealth of examples and illustrations, before participants proceed take part in concrete exercises to test and deepen their understanding.

At the end of the session, participants are provided with individual resource packs that allow them to implement UCD methods immediately. A collection of recommended reading, guidelines, a glossary, and and online resources is also made available.

Note: This full day course can be adapted to be delivered in a half-day session.

Training Course 2:
Web accessibility

Length: Half day
Suitable for: Web designers or managers unfamiliar with accessibility

As the industry becomes increasingly aware of website accessibility, site owners and developers are finding unanswered questions and seeming complications. This course will offer concrete demonstrations and background to equip you and your team to:

• Understand the importance of accessibility from an ethical, business, and legal perspective
• Have a definitive picture of the organisations involved, their roles, and the implications thereof
• Recognise the issues that disabled people have accessing websites
• Understand and experience the technologies people use
• Have a good understandng of how to design and build accessible websites

At the end of the session, participants are provided with individual resource packs that allow them to immediately assess web accessibility and develop solutions. A collection of recommended reading, guidelines, a glossary, and and online resources is also made available.

Note: This course can be tailored for management or developers.
